Job Offer? New Questions to Ask

by Jenna P

When deciding to take a job offer, I used to suggest clients ask themselves the following questions:

Is it good for your heart?

Is it good for your wallet?

Is it good for your resume?

If it meets two out of three, go for it.

Now, as we move back into theatre with all that’s happened and all that’s not happened since March, 2020, those questions can be looked at with some updated lenses.

Ask yourself:

Is it good for your heart? Will this help me show up (for myself and/or for others) in a meaningful way? Will this make me fall back into old limiting stories/structures/habits or will it help me greet new expansive challenges, opportunities, and possibilities?

Is it good for your wallet? Will this support (financially and/or emotionally) my growth (as an artist and/or human being)? Will showing up for this every day spark joy?

Is it good for your resume? How will telling this story in this moment feel? How will working with this set of creatives enhance my artistry?

It may be tempting to receive an offer and pounce – a gig is a gig, right? WRONG! Pouncing for the sake of pouncing may leave you feeling unfulfilled and frustrated on the job.

You get to choose how you spend your time, your energy, and your creativity. And often, when you are having a positive experience, it will pay off in financial and energetic reward. Choose things that fill your cup!

If you’re looking for a community to navigate decisions like this with, consider joining the BADassery! We launch March 14th.
