Imagine a Community Help Desk

by Jenna P

I want to live in a world with a giant community help desk.

A few weeks ago, I had dinner with a friend of a friend of a friend. A mutual friend connected us because we’re now in the same city, and we work in different positions within the same industry. About halfway through the dinner, as the conversation became less spontaneous and more labored, I had a revelation about how lucky I am to be a part of the communities of which I’m a part in New York. Particularly because the people in these communities choose collaboration over competition.

That’s one of my favorite parts about the BADassery (our Broadway Artist Development mentorship program)- we help each other. So while we’re all anxiously navigating this ever-shifting theatrical landscape, we can all daydream and brainstorm about how to get there together.

In my theatrical future, I see a community help desk. I see a place where we can go to be connected to the places and people with whom we’d like to collaborate just by asking each other for help.
